Version 10 Cometh

A while back I registered a domain, the name of the blog was Version X (eg Version 10) because it was my first folley with using Ghost as a blogging platform.

I wasn’t really feeling Ghost to be fair, and it was legitimately the 10th incarnation of my blogging activities.

However, since spinning down the old Ghost server, the domain has remained unused. Until today, since the 10th version of my BBS is also now coming to age, it seems apt to use this domain for what it’s designed for. And I do like it myself.

I’ve also put together a small website on there for updates and of course, on the news server we now have a local group called mmn.v10.

I’ll also post to my blog here about changing up the BBS, what I add, etc.

Many many things have occured.

It’s been a while (as usual) since I’ve had an update.  Somewhat unsurprising to be fair, since I have a good few projects on the go.

Day job is busy, I’m currently on a new project on their side, so it keeps me thinking.  Side work is also keeping my weekends booked too.

But on the site, I’m presently advertising more and getting some extra clicks in.  But considering how much AdWords are charging, it’s not really paying out as of yet.  But it’s early doors, so one shall see.

Madame Katze is still her bubbly self, I caught her giving me devil eyes while sleeping in a ball.

freaky it was

So having found a new CRM and really testing it out, I've been madly bringing everything across from EspoCRM.

Granted it's a paid for product, but considering my invoicing level is at the stage where I should really be investing in the business and making an effort at marketing, client management and the like.  The good thing so far is the intigration in to the phone system, right now, not so much of a problem, but if things pick up then I'll be able to get a few people involved.  Which is good since the phone system will try and connect a contact to their account manager.

It's fully online so I don't need to get physical phones involved and it even works via browser, so I can really do things from anywhere.

Since my laptop is not having life though, I'm getting one of my old PCs to be a dedicated work unit, to make things a bit simplier and better.

I've also brought across my work email domain to Yandex Mail, which is intigrated with the CRM.  It's a bit different, but everything is going well for the moment.  Basically this is my saturday night, I'm getting old, clearly.

Shameless Promotion

Having somewhat over booked myself today, and unable to get back to sleep, I decided that I should put a bit more effort in to my advertising.  At the moment it is quite, figure it out myself and hope I don’t break things.  But it seems to be working out.

After checking the pricing promos, I decided to highlight two of them on my main website.  My days as a copyrighter and perhaps even an eMarketing Guru are more than likely, not looking too great, I did actually put some effort in to it.  Whether or not this volley will gain some views, I’m not sure, but at least I’m starting to build things up.

After my bout in Guerilla Marketing™, I moved in to familiar territory with adding codification down in to my CRM and setting up client profiles to start moving towards sending my first email newsletter.  A well thought out one at that.

This should keep me productive for the coming months, which is great as I’ve received two tax bills at once, both due at the end of the month ¯\_(ツ)_/¯.

Updating the old school

After having a tiny bit of time to myself today, I used this time somewhat wisely between watching films and working on the 21 year on going project that is my BBS.

Concerningly, it is actually 21 years old and that terrifies the shit out of me.  Sans déc.

But the leg work of trying to keep it all in one place has finally been done, I’ve cleaned up the web server on the BBS, redirected domains and started to put together the content on to this site to get it more or less functional.  More pressing is that I finally got the SSL certificate installed from StartCom.

I’m in two minds as I really don’t want to lose the current style of the BBS website, because god knows it has been like that forever, but I think I can still keep it around but in a more up-to-date model (here on and the classic theme for the actual private BBS areas.

Because one thing I have noticed is that the web site is stale content wise and not great to update, unless in front of a computer.  There is also the whole needing to consolidate everything on to just for my sanity.

Once I can get that fully wrapped up, then I can move back to the more technical aspects, such as keeping dial-up access up, the backend mail servers, finding a way to keep the intra-servers VPN more stable and finally updating the ANSI screens.

Project wise I seem to overwhelm myself a little considering that I don’t have a whole lot of extra time to myself, but I press on.  Because when you invest 21 years, it’s probably something you enjoy.

Passé décomposé

Finally an update out of my new Montparnasse HQ, after all that has gone on in the past year this it’s strange to think that two years ago from yesterday I started the move to Paris.

Having officially lived here for a year and six months (a year and seven months if you include when I was staying here for the month of may 2013), it’s been a bizarre experience.  My french has improved and declined and improved again, I’ve lived on each end of the city and some, had the pleasure of battling the french paperwork system, encounters with the ever so helpful Police Nationale, the billion and one things needed to rent an appartement and the hilarity of the french medical system (hope you don’t need to stay monsieur, it will cost 1.300€ a night! and my personal favourite so why are you here? the doctor asked as blood flowed down my face).  But you know what?  I would not have it any other way.

There have certainly been highs and lows, but all I need to do is step out of my front door to realise what I have here.

Having had the opportunity to grow up in one country, live in another and finally settle down here in France I can’t really say my life hasn’t been interesting; once it comes time to end my life long adventure on this great spinning ball in the deep void of space (because both impôts and death are a certainty, unless you have a good accountant then it’s only the latter).

On this time of reflection (my birthday) I take the moment to sit back and accept the previous year and the achievement of some how making it out alive from my early to teenage years with only moderate neurosis.  And let’s be honest, no self identified adult is entirely sure how they made it past eighteen.

It’s also bizarre to think that I’ve had my ongoing project for nineteen years, which is the same amount of time I lived on the otherside of this planet in Canada.  With the second being learning life the hard way in the UK for twelve years after that.

Being thirty-two (and seemingly being seen as twenty-five by my french counterparts – how I love you so France) is an awkward experience, social norms tell me I should have some kind of luxurious appartement, have a few small humans running around and be married to my boyfriend/husband (come on, I can’t fulfill all your wants society) of 17 who I met in high school.  Has that all happened, no not really, do I care?  Not all all, because I’M IN PARIS SUCKAS AND IT’S MAH BERFDAY YO.

The moral of this story, I end up writing a jumbled mess of thoughts on to a journal that has been active for fifteen years and post images of hot dudes for no relevant reason.  Take that internets!

Make it, then break it!

I set up a blog on my personal homepage a while back, however, I some how managed to crap it out completely.

So here I am sleepless again (with an early start) playing around with another WordPress installation. It seems stable, but I haven’t yet the heart to move it across.

The Out of Memory error is still freshly burnt in to my soul.

With all that has happened so far, I’m glad to report this is perhaps the least interesting drama I can come up with.

I think I’ll fiddle some more and write something actually interesting.

Changes to

I will be making a number of changes to the MMN website over the coming weeks.  This stems from the problems I had with the BBS machine when I was away in Paris in May.

I noticed that between the home broadband connection and the traffic GATEWAY was taking to handle non-BBS requests, it was best to move that machine away from the main domain and split it off.

This does not mean anything will change with the BBS, which is at the heart of what MMN has always been.  The email domain will still be and telnet/wcNav will still be on  The only change is the support portal/HTML interface website which is now on

Why  Because I am moving “back to where it all started”.  When MMN was first set-up I created it on the only domain I had access to at the time  A year or so later I was able to become a Sole Proprietorship at the Provincial level allowing me access to

When CIRA/AECI took over the .ca name space I made the mistake of not taking forward, so this is my hommage to that error.

Since moving away from our VPN’d IP address Jabber has been moved to the sub-domain so there is unlikely to have any concequence of service disruptions in this change.

What will be happening to  It will now be a cross between a portal site, my personal site and a project site.  I have invested seventeen years in to MMN and since I started it back in 1996; and I have always meant to merge my personal projects in to the MMN name.

What about the Twitter account @mmnI will be trying to move or at least mirror my personal account over to this; much to the displeasure of whomever is constantly requesting password changes.  It’s still not for you!

What about your LiveJournal?  Nothing changes there, cross posts there and I’m still active on the LiveJournal community.

I have questions!  QUESTIONSQUESTIONSQUESTIONS!  Don’t we all, but no matter you can email me here (select CS from the drop down) and I’ll come back to you; or leave a comment on my LJ post.
