The Life and Times of AX.PE

I never really had a true plan for AX.PE, like really I did not. I’ve been doing things with it for a while now but nothing of real interest.

It seems now that I have found a little pet project for it, I discovered Known. Having read up about it, and being particularly interested in the social media sharing part (since I won’t have to be stuck in the Facebook endless loop), I decided to go for it.

However, it appears that they may have omitted some pertinent information about the whole connecting to anti-social medias. Ya gotta pay. And actually while writing this post and getting lost in the documentation, it appears that it ain’t a thing any more.

Which severely changes the tone of this particular post, if I can figure out how to get it to communicate with the social networks, then it’ll be a good thing. If I can’t then, really it won’t replace what’s already happening here. WordPress does all the graft and I don’t need to Tweet.

It is quite light weight on the eyes, so I’ll still give it a play around and see what happens.

Finally a use for ao.tc

1 bought a short domain some time ago, it is ao.tc. I had some issues trying to work out where it was to fit in with what I already have running, since ec.je is now here on LiveJournal, and cw.nf is the hosting domain.

I’ve been recently pulling apart what is allocated to my business side of MMN and what is my personal hobby side. In the move, I recovered my long time email address, but lost the website to the business side (equally my ec.je email address is full on business now).

I then took the BBS away from being on the business, so this is back to being a personal venture. Doing that I managed to put in to use another domain, mmn.cx, that should have been a business project but never was. So that part all fit in.

But I could never fully place ao.tc, until today. I’ve made it in to a portal site, with my personal sites and such in there. It makes sense, I have a lot of little side projects all over the place.with their own domains, like retrowa.re (ao.tc/retroware) for example.

I’m trying to also drop my data foot print in bigger companies, such as Creepy Googles, so it’ll be the place I’ll pop my photo hosting site too. On a side note, my personal email is now self hosted, encrypted and self managed.

I’ve also brought back the old MMN design that was lost in the business site changes, it’s kind of like having an old friend back.

Email Changes

Because I started MMN as a hobby, then started to move in to a business context slowly over the years, it’s been hard to seperate my personal things from work things, and this is certainly obvious in my email inbox.

Honestly, I’m starting to lose track of my own things between the automatic notifications from all the systems, business emails, personal emails and everything else.

So I’m starting the process of removing domains from the business G Suite account on to a personal email server.

And this means all the domains I’ve got personally, which are shockingly a lot, are now in to this account.

Over this week, I’ll be sending out an email to people I keep in touch with my personal address and of course start the labourious task of moving everything out one by one.

If you want to email me in the interim, it’s now via this form.

Updating the old school

After having a tiny bit of time to myself today, I used this time somewhat wisely between watching films and working on the 21 year on going project that is my BBS.

Concerningly, it is actually 21 years old and that terrifies the shit out of me.  Sans déc.

But the leg work of trying to keep it all in one place has finally been done, I’ve cleaned up the web server on the BBS, redirected domains and started to put together the content on to this site to get it more or less functional.  More pressing is that I finally got the SSL certificate installed from StartCom.

I’m in two minds as I really don’t want to lose the current style of the BBS website, because god knows it has been like that forever, but I think I can still keep it around but in a more up-to-date model (here on ec.je) and the classic theme for the actual private BBS areas.

Because one thing I have noticed is that the web site is stale content wise and not great to update, unless in front of a computer.  There is also the whole needing to consolidate everything on to ec.je just for my sanity.

Once I can get that fully wrapped up, then I can move back to the more technical aspects, such as keeping dial-up access up, the backend mail servers, finding a way to keep the intra-servers VPN more stable and finally updating the ANSI screens.

Project wise I seem to overwhelm myself a little considering that I don’t have a whole lot of extra time to myself, but I press on.  Because when you invest 21 years, it’s probably something you enjoy.

Short Domain Joy.

I keep to my word and now I have moved on to the ec.je domain.  The EC websites have been moved over to ECNIC and ECC.

It seems like a good choice, short and sweet (kind of like my sporradic posts to be fair).  I’ve also updated my contact details, which you can get by updating yours!

It’s kind of random how I’ve started with a bizarre website in 2001 (with the domain stolen – thnx AfterNIC) and come back to it.  I’m also going to keep my things on three four domains, mmn.is, church.cat, ec.je and cw.nf.  Life is so easy like that.

New Name, When it Works

My domain costelloe.ca was a big long and it transpires that in French most people get confused by the silence of the ‘e’ at the end (Bonjour M Costello-eh, je vous écoute) so seeing as I acquired the tiny domain ec.je on the tiny British Channel Islands isle of Jersey, it seemed best to consolidate the domain holdings.

Because you know I have many.  Too many.

There is a temptation to move my blog over to just ec.je, because quite frankly that would be AWESOME.

In fact I might do that now, hold my weave, I’m going in…
